Our story
Beginings
In the summer of 2023, while visiting their friend Allen Cress in Oregon, Thom and Mara were invited to visit Edwards Place, a pocket neighborhood community that Allen’s company had built for families with adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. After talking to some of the residents, and seeing the great need that this community filled in their lives, Thom and Mara started thinking, Utah needs this, does anyone in Utah provide a similar opportunity? After seeing that no such community existed in Utah, they set out to start Ohana Communities.

Our Mission
Our Mission
Our Mission
Ohana Communities is being established to address the need for housing, community, and stability for families with adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. We seek to accomplish this by building pocket neighborhoods consisting of small single-family homes in conjunction with a group home where the parents or caregivers and the adult child with developmental disabilities could live together in a single-family home, and transition to the group home, or start in the group home, but still live near their parents or caregivers.
